"The World Game" - Les Murray
"Mr Football", World Cup Expert, Hall of Famer!
Les Murray AM personified soccer. Although, sadly passing away in 2017, Les to this day, remains as Australia's first and foremost premier man of Soccer.
Hosting "The World Game" from 1986 to 2014, his familiar avuncular face and soft Hungarian accent will remain in the hearts and memories of all those who have watched the broadcasts of the World Cups, Internationals, Socceroos and Matildas - usually watching in the wee hours of the morning.
Les is responsible (almost single handily) for bringing soccer into the homes of Australia and helping grow its popularity over the past 3 decades.
Les was made a Member of the Australian Order for services to soccer in 2006. He was awarded the Australian Sports Commission Media Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
He passed away in 2014 following an illness and was given a State Funeral in Sydney.
